T-1 Defined: A type of high-speed digital data connection that operates at 1.544 Mbps and requires a two-pair (four-wire) UTP cable connection between the telephone company Central Office and the customer premises. This time-division multiplexed digital transmission facility is also capable of supporting 24 voice channels, (each encoded as a 64 Kbps PCM DS-0 signal), producing an aggregate multiplexer output signal at the 1.544 Mbps DS-1 rate.
